Wacky Super Bowl LVIII Prop Bets: From the Jersey Math to Cross-Sport Specials

While prop bets have become a weekly staple in NFL gambling life, the Super Bowl still takes the cake when it comes to betting on just about everything you can think of. Some mainstream U.S. sportsbooks won’t take bets on things like the length of the national anthem or the color of the Gatorade used to bathe the winning coach because these things can be known and influenced ahead of time.

But still, if you look hard enough, you can find wagers on not only nearly everything that will take place at Allegiant Stadium but also combining the action in the Super Bowl with other sporting events on Super Sunday.

Here are three of our best wacky Super Bowl prop bets for the Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers matchup.

Zoom, Zoom! Fastest Player in the Super Bowl

This is one we haven’t seen before, and fortunately, there’s some stats to back us up.

NFL’s Next Gen Stats records the speed of all ball carriers. Many of the regular season marks were set by Tyreek Hill and other members of the Miami Dolphins. But to gain insight on the two teams playing Sunday, we can filter our results to Championship Sunday, when Kansas City and San Francisco were among just four teams playing

The results showed that the fastest 49er was Brandon Aiyuk, who hit 19.9 mph on that play where he was trying to chase down the ball and ended up catching it when it bounced off a Lions defender’s helmet.

Next was Marquez Valdes-Scantling of Kansas City, who clocked in at 19.04 mph. No other Niner or Chief broke the 18 mph mark — the closest was Deebo Samuel at 17.98.

How does this reflect the odds? At DraftKings, the oddsmakers must not expect fans to do a lot of research. Christian McCaffrey (+400) and Isiah Pacheco (+475) are the favorites. But neither running back was on the top-20 chart for the weekend of the conference championships. The odds on Aiyuk and MVS are appealing.

The Play: Super Bowl Fastest (MPH) Ball Carrier at DraftKings– Brandon Aiyuk (+550) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (+700)

How Are Your Math Skills? Jersey Totals for Wacky Super Bowl Bets

Another novelty prop being offered at DraftKings is the combined jersey number total by touchdown scorers.

What this will likely come down to is whether Travis Kelce (87) or George Kittle (85) score a touchdown. If they don’t score, there’s virtually no chance that the over on this bet hits.

Christian McCaffrey, who is No. 23, has scored a touchdown in every playoff game he’s been a part of. A Kelce and CMC score pushes the total to 110. After that, virtually any other score pushes it over the total of 121.5, even though there are many players who are at No. 11 or under on each team, including Aiyuk, Rashee Rice, and Pacheco.

But Kelce has scored a touchdown in 11 of his last 13 playoff games, so the odds of that occurring are strong. At that point, you’re in great shape for this bet, so even giving up a lot of odds on a yes/no bet, feel confident in taking the over.

Cross-Sport Special in Who Strikes First

A cross-sport special can give you some nice odds on a Super Bowl prop bet if the first part of your wager hits earlier in the afternoon on Super Sunday. For this wager, we turn to the game between the Sacramento Kings and the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder, who are surprisingly one of the best teams in the NBA this season.

The Thunder are led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who had been carrying the team on his back for a couple years now, but people are starting to notice now that OKC is winning games. The wager we’re zeroing in on is at FanDuel and carries a cool +1600 in odds.

The first led is for Gilgous-Alexander to score over 35 points.

In two games against the Kings this season, the Thunder star has 43 and 33 points.

The second leg is for Kelce to score the first touchdown in the Super Bowl. Kelce’s odds of doing this on its own are +750, so you’re adding some nice value in what is essentially a toss-up on the NBA game.

We like this one because it gives you a rooting interest for a whole NBA game, and if you win, there’s a halfway decent shot of the second one happening too, and scoring on a +1600 bet early in the Super Bowl is a win in anyone’s book.

The Play: Travis Kelce to Score 1st TD AND Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (vs. Kings 11th of February) to Score 35+ Points (+1600 at FanDuel)
