Top MVP, OPOY, and OROY bets for the 2023 NFL season

The NFL season is almost one month away. While the offseason is the hardest time to predict NFL futures, it also nourishes the best odds. Even the favorites for NFL awards have 3-to-1, 6-to-1 or 12-to-1 odds.

Let’s look at the NFL odds for awards on the offensive side of the ball:

(Each award lists a favorite and dark horse for the honors)

Most Valuable Player (MVP)

Patrick Mahomes (+650)Joe Burrow (+750)
Josh Allen (+750)Jalen Hurts (+1200)
Lamar Jackson (+1400)Justin Herbert (+1500)
Trevor Lawrence (+1600)Aaron Rodgers (+1800)
Tua Tagovailoa (+2200)Justin Fields (+2500)

Bets to consider:

Mahomes/Burrow/Allen: To win 2023 regular season MVP (+190, Caesars Sportsbook)

Any other player: To win 2023 regular season MVP: (-240, Caesars Sportsbook)

On Caesars Sportsbook, they recognize it will be hard to dethrone the trio of young stars: Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen. So, Caesars Sportsbook is offering a unique line where NFL fans can bet on Mahomes/Burrow/Allen or the field. At +190, if one of the three quarterbacks wins, you cash in. Conversely, bettors can take the field, -240 favorite, if they think someone else will rise up – like Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers: To win 2023 regular season MVP (+1800, Caesars Sportsbook)

After the big three of Mahomes, Burrow, and Allen, the 18-year veteran Aaron Rodgers is a player to look at for MVP awards. With the eighth-best odds (18-to-1) Rodgers may look like a long shot. However, according to Sports Illustrated, Rodgers was tied for being the eighth-highest MVP favorite at 25-to-1 odds on William Hill Sports Book in 2020. He ended up winning the MVP award that year by a landslide.

On the Jets, Rodgers brings former receivers in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. He also has Garrett Wilson, a 1,000-yard receiver and OROY winner, despite having a carousel of quarterbacks last season. A fifth MVP for Rodgers would tie him with Peyton Manning for the most MVPs all-time.

Offensive Player of the Year (OPOY)

Justin Jefferson (+1200)Ja’Marr Chase (+1200)
Christian McCaffrey (+1500)Tyreek Hill (+1500)
Jonathan Taylor (+1800)Cooper Kupp (+2000)
Jalen Hurts (+2000)Stefon Diggs (+2000)
Nick Chubb (+2200)Lamar Jackson (+2200)

Bets to consider:

Ja’Marr Chase: To win Offensive Player of the Year (+1200, BetRivers)

Justin Jefferson is the reigning award-winner and is tied as the favorite to win the award in 2023. He is coming off a season where he had 1,809 yards and eight touchdowns on 128 receptions. He also won Play of the Year at the ESPYs for his one-handed snag on fourth-and-18 against the Bills.

However, only two players have won the award in consecutive seasons: Earl Cambell (1978-1980) and Marshall Faulk (1999-2001). Nonetheless, a wide receiver is still a good option to look at for OPOY awards – in this case, Ja’Marr Chase. While the award has historically been dominated by running backs, three of the last four winners are receivers. The NFL is a passing league now and one of the best pass catchers is Ja’Marr Chase. In 2022, he had 87 catches for 1,046 yards and nine touchdowns, despite missing five games due to injury. In a healthy season with Burrow at the helm, Chase looks great at 12-to-1 odds.

Travis Kelce: To win Offensive Player of the Year (+3500, BetRivers)

Kelce is not in the top 10 for OPOY odds, but he is one of the greatest tight ends of all time and has Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball. These two have always had a great connection which helped Kelce notch 110 receptions, 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. With no true WR1 on Kansas City, Kelce posts stellar odds to be the first TE to win the OPOY.

Offensive Rookie of the Year (OROY)

Bijan Robinson (+300)Bryce Young (+420)
CJ Stroud (+900)Anthony Richardson (+900)
Jahmyr Gibbs (+1100)Jaxon Smith-Njigba (+1400)
Jordan Addison (+1600)Quentin Johnston (+2200)
Zay Flowers (+3000)Will Levis (+4000)

Bets to consider:

Bijan Robinson: To win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+300, FanDuel)

Bijan Robinson is the favorite for a reason. At the University of Texas, he was a Doak Walker recipient for best running back in the country and an All-American. He was drafted eighth overall by the Falcons. The Falcons are a struggling team without many options, so Robinson should see plenty of volume. He will likely slot in as a three-down back and is coached by run-heavy Arthur Smith.

Jordan Addison: To win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+1600, FanDuel)

The addition of Addison to the Vikings makes this rookie a dark horse option to consider. Minnesota parts ways with Dalvin Cook and Adam Thielen who occupied 25% of the Vikings target share in 2022. While quarterbacks generally win this award, we have seen receivers take the trophy the past two years: Garrett Wilson of the Jets in 2022 and Ja’Marr Chase of the Bengals in 2021.

Addison can have a productive rookie season as the WR2 behind Justin Jefferson. Thielen’s 107 catches are up for grabs. Cook had 56 receptions and departing TE Irv Smith Jr. adds on 36 more receptions. That is a combined 199 unaccounted-for targets. More so, the Vikings threw the ball 672 times in 2022 which was third most in the league. All signs point to the Vikings continuing their pass-heavy offense with Addison.
