College Football Pick Week 4 Picks
Clemson (-7) at Wake Forest
These aren’t your grandpa’s Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Deacs have players who can go toe-to-toe with Clemson, including Heisman candidate Sam Hartman (625 yards, 7 TD, 2 INT) at QB and stud wide receiver A.T. Perry (12 rec, 222 yards, TD).
Clemson has blown out Georgia Tech, Furman, and Louisiana Tech by a combined 74 points, though they only covered in the first of the three games. Wake beat VMI by 34, Vanderbilt by 20, and then squeaked by Liberty by one point.
This will likely be Clemson’s toughest road test of the season with games at Florida State and Notre Dame not looking especially intimidating. Try telling someone 25 years ago that games with Wake Forest and N.C. State will be tougher than games against Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami, and Georgia Tech.
Wake Forest last beat Clemson in 2008, giving them a 13 game losing streak against the Tigers. We can’t guarantee Wake Forest will win this game, but we’re saying they’re going to cover.
The Pick: Wake Forest +7
Florida at Tennessee (-10.5)
Here are some facts about these two teams:
1. Florida has beaten Tennessee five straight times and in 16 of the last 17 matchups
2. Florida has failed to cover in eight straight road games
3. These teams were both in the Top-20 when they met eighteen straight times, from 1985 through 2006.
4. They have not met as Top-20 opponents since 2016.
5. This spread is confusingly high. Florida is going to cover.
The Pick: Florida +10.5
Notre Dame at North Carolina (-1.5)
North Carolina’s 63-61 over Appalachian State looks better after App. St went to College Station and beat Texas A&M. Notre Dame’s loss to Marshall looks worse after the Thundering Herd lost to Bowling Green last week.
Statistically Drew Pyne has been better than Tyler Buchner, but the offense has been too conservative with Pyne. North Carolina in a rout.
The Pick: North Carolina -1.5
