MLB Best Bets For Wednesday, July 13

We’ve got a real west coast bias today as all three of our best bets today involve NL West and AL West matchups. Most importantly, it’s Shohei Ohtani Day, which is always cool. Unfortunately for the Shohei fans, we’re going against the Angels today. Find out why in our best MLB bets for Wednesday’s games.

Padres @ Rockies

The Bet: Under 10.5 (-105, BetMGM)

It’s hard to find a run total higher than this. It will be the third game of a 4 game set between these two teams. The first run total was 11, and the second was 8. So why are we taking the under? Joe Musgrove vs. Chad Kuhl. Musgrove is having a sensational season. He’s got an 8-2 record, with a 2.09 ERA. Kuhl isn’t too shabby himself. He’ll be coming into his home start with a 4.02 ERA. Even if one of these starters has a tough outing, you could still be in play for the under in this one.

The main reason this total is so high seems to be because the game will be at Coors Field. Sure, it’s a hitters park, but that generally isn’t adding multiple runs a game. The Padres have a middle of the pack lineup, while the Rockies are third in baseball in batting average. This Rockies lineup will be going up against one of the best pitchers in the game, though. Last time Musgrove faced the Rockies he pitched a scoreless 6 innings.

It’s not as fun taking the under, but it seems like a sure lock in this one. You may even want to consider throwing down multiple units on this one.

A’s @ Rangers

The Bet: Over 7.5 (-110, DraftKings)

The last two matchups between the A’s and the Rangers have been high scoring. The Rangers won Monday’s matchup by the score of 10-8, and the A’s won yesterday’s game 14-7. These were exceptionally high scoring games, which you can’t expect to continue, but 7.5 is a low number considering what’s been going on recently between these two teams.

A’s All-Star Paul Blackburn is getting the nod today for the A’s. He will be going up against righty Jon Gray. Blackburn is having a phenomenal year, but he got roughed up in his last start against Houston. He also rarely makes it past the fifth inning. Gray hardly ever has shut down games, and didn’t pitch well in his last game against Oakland.

We’re taking the over in this one.

Astros @ Angels

The Bet: Astros Moneyline +105

Yes, Ohtani is going to be on the hill for the Angels. Yes, he’s an incredible player. But the Angels are no good. See the Tungsten Arm O’Doyle tweet. They will be going up against a team that’s 20 games better then them, and the disparity has been evident in their head to head matchups as well. The Astros are 5-2 against the Angels this year, and have won the last 4 contests. Additionally, the Angels have lost 5 straight games, with their most recent one coming last night against the Astros.

Moneylines are heavily swayed by pitching matchups. Nobody thinks the Angels are a better team than the Astros. This is a game where Ohtani’s value will be on full display, but he’ll be going up against another outstanding pitcher. Christian Javier is having a great season for the Astros. He’ll be coming into this one with a 6-4 record, to go with a 3.01 ERA. Ohtani’s numbers are a tad better, but the pitching matchup is relatively even.

At the end of the day, the Astros are better at winning games then the Angels are. Expect the Astros’ winning ways to continue, while the Angels sink further and further down the standings. Gotta go with the Astros moneyline in this one.
