College Basketball’s Best Bets For Sunday, March 27

Two tickets to the Final Four in New Orleans have been punched, and another two will be today. In the process, history might be made once again by America’s Team – the Peacocks of St. Peter’s. They’ve already gone further into March than any #15 seed before them, and if they can slay North Carolina, they’ll be in uncharted territory for even a #12, #13, or #14 seed, as well.

Before that, there’s still a Kansas vs. Miami dispute to settle as a traditional football powerhouse tries to take out one of the all-time greatest college basketball programs.

We hope the last two weeks have been profitable and that you can end them on a bang. These sides should do the trick you today:

Miami vs. Kansas

The Bet: Miami +6

With Remy Martin playing as well as he has, it’s hard to see Kansas losing again this season. He missed most of February with an injury, and until his team’s opening round win against #16 Texas Southern, he hadn’t scored 15 points in a game since mid-December.

Including in the Texas Southern game, Martin has led the Jayhawks in scoring in every game this tournament. Kansas ostensibly added a number one option to a team that already was a #1 seed. They could run away with this thing, but don’t count out Miami. They have big wins this season (including against UNC and Duke in ACC play), and like Kansas, they have a lot of options. McCusty, Wong, Moore, and Miller – all guards – average double figures in scoring on the season. And the Hurricanes have the fifth best turnover margin in the country.

Kansas still very well might win this, but Miami deserves a lot of credit for its run and should keep this one close until the end.

St. Peter’s vs. North Carolina

The Bet: St. Peter’s +8.5

This isn’t necessarily an endorsement for the Peacocks to win again, though only a fool would assume that’s impossible after the run they’ve gone on so far. But North Carolina looks a lot like some of the heavy hitters St. Peter’s has already vanquished.

St. Peter's Peacocks guard Doug Edert (25) and forward Fousseyni Drame (10) and forward Hassan Drame (14) celebrate after a play in th second half against the Purdue Boilermakers in the semifinals of the East regional of the men's college basketball NCAA Tournament at Wells Fargo Center.

UNC is 25th in scoring offense in the nation. Kentucky and Purdue were 14th and 15th respectively.

UNC is sixth in the country in rebounding margin. Kentucky and Purdue were 1st and 2nd respectively.

UNC has the 293rd best turnover margin in all of college basketball odds. Kentucky and Purde have the 143rd and 310th best respectively.

All three of these teams put up a lot of points, do most of their damage in the paint, don’t give up a lot of second chances, but can’t really take care of the ball particularly well. That’s exactly the kind of game St. Peter’s wants. They can bully Armando Bacot around if past is prologue, and as long as they can hit a few shots, they’re very live to go to the Final Four. Take the 8.5 points.
