Can the Rockets put up any kind of fight against their in-state rival Mavs and Luka Doncic?

The Rockets weren’t expected to be good this season, but right now they’re first in the Victor Wenbanyama sweepstakes. Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. have stepped up their games but there just isn’t enough on that team for the Rockets to be competitive this season. They’ve got the 2nd worst FG% in the league and their defense is giving the 2nd best FG% to their opponents. Not a great combination.

With the way Luka Doncic is playing, you’d expect the Mavs to have a slightly better record. His 34.3 points per game leads the league, and he compliments that with 8 assists and almost 9 rebounds. Despite his outstanding play, there isn’t a great second option behind him on the team, and the Mavs are only 22nd in scoring. It’s hard to see Spencer Dinwiddie, Christian Wood, or Tim Hardaway being the 2nd best player on a championship level team. Their wins have to come from superhuman effort by Doncic.

Before they face off, the Rockets will play at home against the Clippers on Monday night, and the Mavs will play at home against the Clippers on Tuesday night.
