Aces are wild today as many teams are having their aces making their second trip to the hill of the season. Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Gerrit Cole, and Robbie Ray are just some of the studs starting tonight. Of the dozen games on the MLB schedule for tonight, we tell you which aces to put your money behind and which to stay away from in our three MLB best bets of the day.
Blue Jays @ Yankees
The Bet: Blue Jays Moneyline (+150, Bet Rivers)
Gerrit Cole struggled against the Red Sox in his season debut, allowing three runs in four innings. Cole was brilliant last season so we have no long term concerns about him, but it will likely take the Yankees ace more time to find his peak form.
Toronto’s Jose Berrios was knocked out after getting just one out while allowing four runs, on three hits and two walks against the Rangers. We’re firmly on the side of that being a fluke. Berrios was stellar last year, splitting time between Minnesota and Toronto, posting a 3.52 ERA with no noticeable difference on either team.
You don’t get a team like Toronto at +150 often, so we’re grabbing the Jays here.
Mets @ Phillies
The Bet: Phillies Moneyline (-110, DraftKings)
Aaron Nola versus Max Scherzer is an excellent pitching matchup for a Wednesday afternoon in April. Both pitchers were just meh their first times to the hill, with Nola allowing four runs and Scherzer surrendering three.
Nola actually looked a little sharper than the Mets pitcher who will turn 38 this summer, which is why we’re leaning towards the Phils.
This is one of those tricky MLB moneyline matchups where both teams are floating around -110, you can do a little bit better taking the Mets, but we’re taking the home Phillies at -110.
Brewers @ Orioles
The Bet: Brewers Moneyline (-169, DraftKings)
With all these aces starting today, the truth is that the best pitcher on any mound today is Corbin Burnes. The Brewers ace won the NL Cy Young last season with a 2.43 ERA, while striking out an absurd 234 batters in 167 innings. Burnes posted a 1.63 WHIP, showing he was actually incredibly unlucky last season, in spite of his dominance.
Burnes will face John Means, the ace of Baltimore’s staff. The good news is that it drops Milwaukee’s moneyline number from the high 100’s down to -169 in some books.
We won with the Milwaukee moneyline yesterday and we’re riding it again today.
