NEW YORK YANKEES 2021 OUTLOOK
Going into 2021, the New York Yankees odds of reaching and even winning the World Series are quite high, as they are the favorites in the American League East and the American League as a whole.
The Yankees started hot in 2020, then slumped in the middle (which cost them the division title to Tampa Bay), and then got hot again to secure a playoff berth. They took the Rays to a deciding fifth game before Arodis Chapman gave up a tiebreaking home run to Mike Brosseau in the eighth inning, leading to a 2-1 Yankees loss and early elimination from the postseason.
The Yankees are the most decorated franchise in baseball history, winning 27 World Series titles and 39 American League titles. The most-recent championship was won in 2009, and the Bronx Bombers haven't been to the World Series since, which is the longest drought between Fall Classics since a stretch from 1981-96.
Many of the greatest names in baseball history are associated with the Yankees. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Reggie Jackson are all Hall of Famers who won multiple championships with the Yankees. In the late '90s and early 2000s, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte were homegrown stars who led the franchise to four titles in five seasons and again in 2009. Joe Torre served as the manager for the '96, '98, '99, and 2000 titles, while Joe Girardi was the skipper in 2009.
Aaron Boone is now the manager, entering his fourth season with New York.
2021 Featured Players
The Yankees focused on keeping their offense together by resigning second baseman D.J. LeMahieu, outfielder Brett Gardner, and catcher Gary Sanchez. Aaron Judge will be back patrolling the outfield, and Giancarlo Stanton will primarily serve as the designated hitter, as the Yankees will hope he can remain healthy. Luke Voit, who led the majors with 22 home runs in a 60-game 2020 season, will start the season on the injured list with a partially torn meniscus.
The rotation was improved by the free-agent signing of Corey Kluber, who threw only one inning last year after suffering an injury. He had a 1.86 ERA in 9.2 innings of work this spring, so the Yankees are hopeful that he is at optimum health. Gerrit Cole starts his second year in the Bronx, with Jameson Taillon and Jordan Montgomery also locking down rotation spots. Domingo German, who sat in 2020 following a suspension for violating MLB's domestic violence policy, is expected to get the final spot in the rotation.
The Yankees seem to have the depth this year on both offense and pitching to overcome a potential rash of injuries like they have seen over the past two seasons.
Bet on the New York Yankees! New York Yankees Odds for 2021
If you're looking at World Series futures, the Yankees have the best odds among all American League teams and are second only behind the defending champ Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees odds are around a +550 (11/2) mark to win the 2021 World Series. A bet on the Yankees to win the American League will pay +220, and you'll have to lay some serious money if you want to win anything on the Yankees winning the American League East, as their odds are at -200, which is the largest division favorite in the American League.
Yankees Logo, Uniform & Stadium History
The Yankees' uniforms have changed very little over the past century. A pinstriped home jersey with the famous interlocking NY is featured on one side of the uniform. The road uniforms are gray with "New York" written across the front. The Yankees are the only team in the majors to not feature names on the back of their away jerseys. The cap is navy blue with a white interlocking NY.
New York is going into their 13th season playing at the current version of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx borough of New York City. They moved over from the original site in 2009.
